I am amazed at how time flies. Life is always changing, and everything, whether good or bad, will eventually come to an end. Nothing in this life remains the same; only God is unchanging and constant in His love, at all times.
In parishes, from time to time, priests are appointed to minister at other parishes. This will happen to me at the end of June. Where I will go after this current assignment will be determined in the springtime.
Back in July of 2013, I was fortunate enough to become an Associate Pastor at Saint Anne Catholic Community. I fell in love with the Saint Anne parish immediately because of the dedicated and committed parishioners. I could see from the start that the people here were strong in their faith and in their desire to serve God and one another. The Lord chose to bless me with a parish community that reflected the Gospel truth of the Fatherʹs love and mercy for the world. Your mercy to me began with your welcome and continues with your prayers as I transition to another parish.
In the past six years, Iʹve watched children grow up. Iʹve said many Masses and baptized a good deal of infants, several children and two adults. Iʹve officiated at marriages, presided at funerals and visited hospitals and shut-ins.
Iʹve had a chance to meditate, reflect and pray with our youth at Spiritus and Kairos retreats, and Iʹve always enjoyed being with you at various meetings, events and services.
I have been a parish priest for 12 years. During this time, I have been stationed in three parishes (St. Tarcissus, St. Raymond and Saint Anne) and I can honestly say that Saint Anne has been the most rewarding and the finest parish community that I have encountered.
Finally, even though Iʹll be with you for the next several months, I want to express my gratitude for our great parish and school staff, Fr. Bernieʹs leadership and friendship, and all your love, prayers and support. It will be hard to leave you, but as I wrote at the beginning of this message, change is inevitable, and all of us have to adjust to it.
While I’ll leave you this coming summer, there is one who remains constant: Jesus Christ. Jesus has been here from the beginning and will be with you for the rest of time. If through the power of the Holy Spirit, you allow Jesus to guide you, then our beautiful Barrington Catholic community will always have a mission.
Smile! God loves you and so do I –
