This Sunday, the Gospel is the story of Jesus raising Lazarus from the dead.
In thinking about it, I was reminded of something I once read that seems appropriate to consider now in light of the current pandemic.
It is the thought, that even when people feel something bad will continue to go on, they add a PERIOD- to indicate there is no end in sight; God, however, adds a comma, because where there is belief in God, suffering does not have the last word.
Right now many are suffering or are in fear of suffering. Perhaps some might feel abandoned by God. This feeling could be an echo of what Martha said “Lord if you had been here…”
Some might say that when we needed him, God was not with us. Their fears may seem to have an implacable finality. God never abandons us. If any of his people are in peril, he accompanies and supports them. His love will comfort those who suffer.
I know our prayers will be answered, and soon church bells will again be ringing to call the faithful to worship.
What a joyous day that will be.
