The preschoolers in Mrs. Cunningham’s class were very excited to learn about the season of Advent. The children learned that Advent is a time of preparing and waiting. An Advent Wreath helps us to remember important things as we wait!
The children learned the special symbols within the wreath. A wreath is formed in the shape of a circle. A circle has no beginning or end. God’s love for us has no beginning or end. The Advent Wreath is covered with Evergreen branches. An Evergreen never changes color. God’s love for us never changes even when we make mistakes! The Advent wreath has four candles representing the four weeks we wait for the Light of Christ. Three of the candles are purple, which is the color of preparation in our church. One of the candles is pink. The pink candle, which is lit on the third week of Advent, represents joy.
We are filled with joy that we are heading towards celebration. When all the candles are lit, Christmas Day will soon be here! During class time the preschoolers had the opportunity to make their very own wreath using Shredded Wheat, glue and green liquid watercolor. It was a messy but beautiful project! It will look lovely displayed in the home of our families.
