I met Sister Lorraine at the first Annie’s Garage Sale. Friends that I met at the sale wanted to help Sister Lorraine with her dream of Project Hope. Seven of us became a “family of friends” and worked in the three car garage behind her office on Franklin Street. We had sorted and hung clothes for her clients that needed clothes and also had mini-garage sales to help her cause. One lady came in and sent clothes to her family in Europe, another bought a dress from
our little boutique rack for her mother in the city. The mother received many compliments on the dress, and she bragged that her daughter bought it from a boutique in Barrington. Sister’s dream helped her cause and made families and a mother in the city happy.
The first House of Hope was opened on Wool Street in Barrington. Our group continued sorting, tagging, pricing and hanging clothes in the garage. Besides doing our usual, we always laughed and celebrated “birthdays” and “just because” days. Sr. Lorraine would love to hear us carry on! When the store on Wool Street became too small, House of Hope moved to Hough Street. Our group continued our job at the garage until the decision was made to make a larger Food Pantry.
We now have moved to Lake Zurich on Rand Road. Our family of friends has grown from seven to 15 at the present time. We would like”YOU” to join our “OUR FAMILY OF FRIENDS.”
We currently need volunteers for-Clothes sorting: Monday and Saturday, 9:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m.; Housewares sorting, pricing and stocking: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday-flexible hours; Donation drop-off area: Monday through Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-1:00 p.m. or 1:00-4:00 p.m.
