All of us are holding back a little bit from completely committing to the kind of social interaction, including church interaction, that we enjoyed before COVID hit. Our numbers at Saint Anne have been growing but are nowhere near where we were in 2019. If you’re like me, you watch the trends and numbers especially in the upper Midwest, certainly in Lake and Cook counties, and hope that numbers of infections and hospitalizations dip and, God willing, stay down. Meanwhile, life at the parish still goes on. The parish school, with all its terrific administration, staff, and volunteers, has remained open from day one of reopening. The dozens of volunteers at House of Hope continue to serve the needs of the community both on Franklin Street and at the store in Lake Zurich.
With the Christmas holidays approaching, we, in the liturgy department, are urging you to consider returning to the ministries you have left as a precaution against COVID if you are able. If you have not been part of a ministry before, we certainly could use more people who would serve as ushers and greeters at all of our masses. I expect that on Christmas weekend, from Friday, December 24, 2021 through Sunday, December 26, 2021 we will have eight masses, and all of those masses will need a full complement of ministers even if our numbers don’t approach the thousands of attendees we had before COVID.
Returning ministers should feel free to call my office phone at 847.620.3064, or email me at firstname.lastname@example.org and I will ask the appropriate head of ministry to contact you. If there are any potential choir members out there, I’m sure we could work you in if you can start rehearsing with us by the Tuesday after Thanksgiving for Christmas.
