Sharing Board

Mission

We believe that our Sharing Program makes the Gospel vision of love real through effective action. The Sharing Program provides a concrete way of expressing this vision by Involving the Parish members more directly in outreach activities.

  • Sharing our faith,
  • Building bridges through friendship and understanding,
  • Sharing gifts, money, food, clothing and ourselves.

A Tradition of Sharing

Parish Sharing is an archdiocesan-wide program that seeks to build bridges between communities separated by race, ethnicity, culture and economic disparity. Parishes of differing backgrounds are linked as sharing parishes, with the hope that each will strengthen the other through the sharing of faith and resources.

Saint Anne has participated in Parish Sharing since its inception. Saint Gelasius in Woodlawn was a long time sharing partner until the Archdiocese closed the parish in 2002. Saint Anne was then linked with Saint Frances of Rome in Cicero.

At Saint Anne, the Sharing Board oversees the Parish Sharing program. Members of the Sharing Board keep in close contact with our Sharing Parish: Saint Frances of Rome in Cicero, as well as another sharing partner: Saint Columbanus Food Pantry.

A relationship was established with these sharing partners during our years with Saint Gelasius.

Funds received from the “Gold Envelopes” or “Parish Sharing Envelopes” and electronic donations collected every month are directed to the needs of our sharing partners. The Sharing Board also looks for ways to build and strengthen ties between our different communities.

The Sharing Board has many ongoing activities throughout the year to support our Sharing Partners. These include the Sharing Tree, held during Advent, which benefits all of our partners, as well as food drives for Saint Columbanus Food Pantry and school activities for the students of Saint Anne and Saint Frances. There are many ways to get involved! We welcome anyone who is interested in learning more about what we do to come to one of our monthly meetings or contact our chairperson, Mark Roeckell with any questions at 847-606-5858, mark@amfirstcontracting.com.

Fifth grade students from St. Anne went to St. Frances of Rome on 10/11. They visited the Mexican Museum of Art and shared in a variety of activities back at school with the St. Frances students. As St. Anne teacher, Anne Marie Collins states, “It was a wonderful day of making new friends and learning about the Mexican culture at the museum.”

Since 2003, our sharing parish has been Saint Frances of Rome, located in Cicero. Saint Frances is a vibrant faith community which has in recent years welcomed a large Hispanic population and is working to meld different cultural traditions. Saint Anne, through the Sharing Board, has supported Saint Frances’ s attempts strengthen its school program by establishing school scholarships for students showing financial need.

Opportunities for a social, cultural and liturgical exchange are as important as sharing of resources. Members of each parish are always welcome guests at the liturgies in the other parish. In addition, the children of both parish schools participate in a number of cooperative programs, building a foundation of cross-cultural friendship and understanding.

We welcome Pastor Father Paul Stein to our Sharing Board meetings several times each year so that he can update the Board on the St. Frances of Rome parish and school.

On Tuesday, 10/18 the St. Anne 3rd grade visited St. Frances of Rome for a day of activities in relation to the “Day of the Dead” celebration which hold great significance in Hispanic culture. It was a fun-filled day learning about their friends at St. Frances as well as their culture.

SHARING SCHOOLS

Saint Anne and Saint Frances of Rome

An important part of the Sharing Board's mission is to build bridges through friendship and understanding.  Our Sharing Schools program helps achieve this by bringing students from both parish schools together on a regular basis to build relationships and learn more about each other through a variety of activities.

St. Columbanus Food Pantry

Saint Columbanus Food Pantry

In December 2004, the Saint Gelasius Food Pantry in the Woodlawn area of Chicago merged with the food pantry at Saint Columbanus. What started as a ministry to 50 households per week has expanded to a comprehensive program providing food, clothes and social service for over 600 at-risk families in the Park Manor neighborhood on the south side of Chicago.

The Sharing Board holds food drives two times a year to directly support the food pantry. These are held around Thanksgiving and Easter. We always need volunteers to help with these drives.

WE also help pack and distribute food on the 4th Wednesday of every month at the pantry. If you are interested in learning more, go to the food pantry website: www.stcolumbanuschicago.org/foodpantry.html or contact Carol Rolfs rolfers631@hotmail.com.

“MAKE A DIFFERENCE TO THOSE IN NEED”

Many, many thanks to all the parishioners who generously donated coats and food to help stock the St. Columbanus Food Pantry. Fr. Matt and his team were so thankful to all at St. Anne for their generosity. Thanks also to those who donated gift certificates and cash, which totaled over $1000.

Thanks also to Project Hope for their large donation of coats and food. Special thanks to all the volunteers, without your help it would not have been a success:

  • Our Journey 6th& 7th grade volunteers who pack on Saturday night and the Journey 8th grade volunteers, who rode down to St. Columbanus and unpacked, all coordinated by Mary Jane Kurowski.
  • Also thanks to Karen Walsh, who can be counted on every food drive, as well as Anne and Dan Guarnieri.
  • Thanks again to our trusted truck drivers Bob Sobelewski and Jim Baumgart for traveling down with the donations.

The Sharing Board would also like to thank Una Colohan and her family for stepping forward to chair this event. Una did a fabulous job! For more information on the food drives or to volunteer to help, please contact Una Colohan at Una.B.Colohan@diageo.com.
